Zulu Cultural Villages

Rorke’s Drift Zulu Village
Location: Rorke’s Drift off the R33 on the P190

The Rorke’s Drift Zulu Village has been constructed as a replica Zulu Village using traditional methods and materials. The village, a community project, is as close as any visitor can hope to see how a Zulu homestead would have looked 150 years ago.

A Zulu guide in his presentation interprets, for the visitor, the small innuendos and influences that make up the many Zulu traditions that surround the life of a traditional Zulu family. An insight is given into the hierarchy of a Zulu family as well as their traditions regarding food, marriage, children and many other aspects of Zulu life.

A display of Zulu dancing can also be arranged by prior appointment. It is well worthwhile to make the effort of securing an appointment not only from an entertainment perspective but also to add to the overall knowledge of the Zulu Culture.

Kwakunje Cultural Village
Location: At Talana Museum on the R33 5kms outside Dundee.

A new addition to the Talana Museum Kwakunje (meaning it was like this) is presented as being a living monument to the Zulu culture that reflects the roots of traditional village culture, and places it in context with the 21st Century.
